How to Get Ready (and Where to Live Once You Have Your Place)
Clearing might seem far away right now, but trust us, it’ll be here before you know it. Whether you’re applying to university for the first time, rethinking your choices, or didn’t quite get the grades you’d hoped for, UCAS Clearing is a fantastic route to find the right course at the right university.
Every year, thousands of students go through Clearing and land somewhere that ends up being a perfect fit. And when it comes to finding somewhere to live, OR Students makes the process smooth with modern, well-located accommodation across key university cities.
What Is Clearing, and Who Can Use It?
Clearing is the UCAS system for filling course spaces that haven’t yet been taken. It’s available if:
- You apply after 30th June
- You didn’t receive or accept any offers
- You didn’t meet your conditional offers
- You’ve changed your mind and want to apply somewhere new
Clearing officially opens on 5th July and runs through 25th September 2025, with A-Level results day on 14th August being the busiest time.
How to Get Clearing-Ready

You’ll need your UCAS login, Clearing number, and exam results to apply quickly. Get everything together the night before so you’re not scrambling on results day.4. Pick Up the Phone
Clearing moves quickly. If you see a course you like, call the university as soon as possible. Be calm, confident, and ready to talk about why you’re a good fit for the course.5. Take a Look Around
